The card looks like it is going to be a decent show, but let’s take an even deeper look into the matches.
First, let’s take a look at the annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. No participants have been announced yet, but that will change in the coming weeks. For this match to work, the winner of this match has to be somebody that really needs it, like a lower card guy, like Apollo Crews or Braun Strowman. After that person wins, they really need to keep the momentum going forward and not drop off the face of the Earth like last year’s winner Baron Corbin.
The next match is Nikki Bella and John Cena versus Maryse and The Miz in a mixed tag match. To me, this match doesn’t scream WrestleMania. According to reports, this is going to be Nikki Bella’s last match with the company, so she wants it with her real-life boyfriend John Cena, against her fellow “Total Divas” co-stars. The seeds for this match should be planted pretty soon.
The next match is AJ Styles versus Shane McMahon. This should be a really good match I’m thinking. The seeds for this were planted during the Survivor Series pay-per-view when Styles turned his back on his fellow teammate.
The next match is Shaquille O’ Neal versus the Big Show. This match has been rumored for years and this year it is finally going to happen. Show has been losing weight leading up to this match, which might be his last. I don’t who I want to win, but I’m excited to see some ShaqFu and some Shaq Attack.
The next match is Charlotte versus Bayley versus Sasha Banks versus Nia Jax for the Women’s Championship. This match is going to be remembered for a long time in my opinion. These are four of the hardest working women in the company today. They each have their own personality and charisma that makes them unique. My pick for this match is Bayley. She definitely deserves it and it would be a dream come true for her to win.
The next match is Chris Jericho versus Kevin Owens, with Jericho’s US Title most likely on the line. The team of “JeriKO” had some pretty good times together, but all good things must come to an end. The seeds have been planted here and there, and they have teased a break-up for a while now. This match will probably come about due to some interference when Jericho, inadvertently (probably) costs Kevin Owens his Universal Championship to Goldberg at Fastlane in March.
The next match is Roman Reigns versus The Undertaker. While most fans hate this match, I actually like this match. The seeds came about when Reigns eliminated Undertaker from the Royal Rumble in January and taunted him saying, “This is my yard now.” With the Undertaker being 52 this year, I and numerous reports say that this will be his last match ever. Even though Undertaker says this every year, and comes back the next, this could be it as he needs new hips, and his waiting to retire for good to undergo the surgery. My pick for this match is Roman Reigns. Even though I’m a huge Undertaker fan, there is an old adage that goes “You always go out on your back.” I believe that Undertaker will put Reigns over and help elevate him. Undertaker wouldn’t be the only guy to retire with a loss. Ric Flair, JBL, Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin have all retired with their last match being a loss.
The next match is Randy Orton versus Bray Wyatt for the WWE Championship. This match will be a fitting end to a wonderful story. Right now Randy Orton is the newest member of the “Wyatt Family”, and is basically a henchmen for the group. With Orton winning the Royal Rumble in January, he was guaranteed a title shot at WrestleMania. Wyatt right now, is scheduled to walk away with the title after the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. This will definitely signal a break-up for the group, but possibly a realignment of the old Wyatt Family of Wyatt, Luke Harper, and Erick Rowan. This match is going to definitely be a show stopper, and I do predict that Wyatt will do the unthinkable, and retain the title.
The main event is Goldberg versus Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. Goldberg is scheduled to win the title from Kevin Owens at the Fastlane pay-per-view in March, to make the match a title fight. The seeds for this match started at Survivor Series in November when Goldberg basically squashed the “Beast Incarnate” in a matter of minutes, humiliating Lesnar. They were further planted when Goldberg eliminated Lesnar from the Royal Rumble in just less than 40 seconds. The following Monday, Lesnar issued out a challenge to fight him at WrestleMania, which Goldberg accepted the following week. I’m hoping this match does go longer than the rumored ten minutes, because after all, this is the main event. My pick for this match is Lesnar as Goldberg’s contract is ending soon, and he is yet to sign an extension, and another loss for Lesnar will hurt his reputation.
